The Story

Woods to the Waves is one of Long Island Disc Golf’s most distinctive annual events, challenging players to experience two dramatically different environments in a single day. Competitors begin among the wooded fairways of Long Island’s pine barrens before making their way to the coastline, where winds, open skies, and beach terrain create an entirely different test of skill.

The 2023 event artwork draws inspiration from the visual language of 1980s surf culture, retro travel posters, and neon-soaked coastal imagery. A breaking wave, setting sun, wooded shoreline, and disc golf basket come together to represent the event’s defining contrast between forest and coast. The design captures the spirit of the tournament itself: one round in the woods, one round by the water, connected by the landscapes that make Long Island disc golf unique.

Created for the 2023 Woods to the Waves tournament, this shirt preserves a snapshot of a continuing tradition that celebrates both competition and place. More than event merchandise, it serves as a record of a format that has become a favorite among Long Island players, commemorating a day spent moving between two of the region’s most recognizable disc golf settings.

A Length

Place the end of the tape beside the collar at the top of the tee (Highest Point Shoulder). Pull the tape measure to the bottom of the shirt.

B Width

Place the end of the tape at the seam under the sleeve and pull the tape measure across the shirt to the seam under the opposite sleeve.

C Sleeve length

Place the end of the tape at the center back of the collar, then pull the tape measure along the top seam of the sleeve. When you get to the shoulder hold the tape in place at the shoulder and continue to pull down the sleeve until you reach the hem of the sleeve.
